statement on cinnamon safety

Burlap & Barrel has been closely following reports that found elevated levels of lead in ground cinnamon products and spice blends that contain ground cinnamon. The reports strongly suggest that cinnamon from certain companies has been tainted, and they recommend that consumers research lead levels in ground cinnamon before buying and consuming it.

We carry two types of ground cinnamon: Royal Cinnamon (Cinnamomum loureiroi) and Cinnamon Verum (Cinnamomum verum). We regularly test both our powdered cinnamons for lead in an internationally accredited food safety testing lab, and both cinnamons are always significantly below the lead limits of 1 ppm.

As a single origin spice company working directly with smallholder farmers, we take immense pride in our close relationships with our partner farmers, and we personally know the folks who grow, harvest and grind our cinnamon. Our long-term relationships are built on mutual trust and transparency, and we are confident that our cinnamon is of the highest quality in terms of both taste and safety.
